About the Bureau
The Edgewater Fire Prevention Bureau is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday and on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We consist of the Fire Official, 6 part-time inspectors and 2 full time fire clerks and are located at the Edgewater Fire Headquarters 838 River Road.
Duties
Our fire inspector's regular duties consist of enforcement of the State of New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, which includes:
- Fire investigations
- Investigation of complaints
- Public education
- Regular fire inspections
- Smoke detector/carbon monoxide compliance

Inspector Training
All fire inspectors are Certified by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety and attend numerous continuing education seminars and training classes for fire inspector in addition to their required fire department training. All inspectors are certified in Arson / Fire Investigations and attend retraining on a regular basis.

Ask about our totally free of charge Needs Assistance Program or TOT Finder Program if someone you know is incapable of exiting their home in an emergency due to age, illness, etc.

- All fire permit applications
- Answer any questions or direct them to a Fire Inspector
- Lock Box applications
- Request for records must be done through an OPRA
- Scheduling of appointments must be done with the Inspector or Fire Official.
